Simon Pokagon (1830-1899) was a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. "Hereditary and Last Chief" of the tribe, his reputation grew from a Potawatomi delegation trip to Washington, his autobiography, and public speaking. Pokagon wrote his autobiography in the Potawatomi language, and then translated it into English.
