Zusammenfassung

My 7 Laws of Development is a practical and thought-provoking guide to the hidden principles that determine whether property developments succeed or fail. Written through the eyes of a seasoned project manager with more than 30 years of experience in construction, development, and large-scale project delivery, this book reveals the real forces operating behind every successful development project.

Far beyond theory, this book explores the lessons learned from delivering complex residential, mixed-use, and masterplanned developments across Australia and internationally. From high-rise apartments and infrastructure coordination to consultant management, contractor pressures, risk, timing, and leadership, each chapter uncovers a law that quietly governs the development process.

Inside the book, readers will discover:

. Why assumptions are one of the most expensive mistakes in development

. How alignment between consultants, contractors, clients, and stakeholders determines project outcomes

. Why risk is rarely unexpected, but sometimes ignored

. The invisible work that separates average developers from exceptional ones

. How timing, pressure, and decision-making shape project success

. Why every development must find equilibrium between cost, quality, people, and vision

. How the long-term legacy of a project ultimately defines its true value

Blending real-world stories, sharp commercial insight, philosophy, and practical lessons, My 7 Laws of Development is written for developers, project managers, builders, consultants, investors, and anyone involved in shaping the built environment.

This book is not about textbook development theory. It is about the realities of what happens on the ground, the decisions made under pressure, the mistakes that cost millions, the psychology behind teams and stakeholders, and the lessons that can only be learned through experience.

Whether you are an experienced developer looking to deepen your craft or someone entering the industry wanting to understand how projects truly succeed, this book provides a powerful framework for seeing development differently.

At its core, My 7 Laws of Development argues that successful projects are never created by chance. They are created by understanding the laws that govern people, process, risk, timing, balance, and legacy - the laws that quietly sit beneath every development ever built.

Michael Malak is a senior project director and construction professional with more than three decades of experience delivering complex property and infrastructure projects across Australia, India and the Middle East. Over the course of his career, he has worked across the full lifecycle of development from early feasibility and planning through procurement, delivery, and final completion, giving him a rare, end-to-end understanding of how projects succeed, how they fail, and what separates the two.He currently serves as the managing director at Jacquel Australia Project Management (JAPM), a firm specialising in independent project management and advisory services. In this role, Michael has overseen and advised on a wide range of developments across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and institutional sectors. His work has involved close collaboration with developers, consultants, contractors, financiers, and regulatory authorities, often operating at the intersection of technical delivery and commercial decision-making.
