Peter Hoskins is Emeritus Professor of Medical Physics and Biomechanics at Edinburgh University, UK. He studied physics at Oxford University from 1977-80. His early career was concerned with hospital service work in clinical medical physics, radiation protection and quality control. His research over 40 years has been involved with quantification of blood velocity and related quantities in arterial disease and obstetrics. This has mainly involved Doppler ultrasound, and also MRI and computational fluid dynamics, leading to 150 journal papers. He has higher degrees from Edinburgh University; PhD (1991) and DSc (2009), and Fellowships from the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) and the Higher Education Academy (HEA). He has been involved in UK professional activities for BMUS (Hon. Sec. 2012, Development Officer 2013) and IPEM (VP Academic 2014). Internationally, he was a member of the ultrasound standards committee of the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC (1997-03), the Technical Programme Committee for the IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium (2001-2024) and has been a member of the Editorial Board of 'Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology' from 1998 in which role he has refereed over 250 papers to date. In addition to the 4 editions of 'Diagnostic Ultrasound Physics and Equipment', he has led books on 'Cardiovascular Biomechanics' (2017, Springer) and 'Academic Practice' (2017, IPEM). He remains professionally active in retirement combining writing with DIY, bowling, petanque and being a grandparent.

Kevin Martin was formerly a Consultant Medical Physicist at the University Hospitals of Leicester, UK. He studied Electronics Engineering at Bangor University (formerly known as the 'University College of North Wales') in the 1970s, gaining a BSc and PhD. He joined the Ultrasonics section of the Medical Physics Department at Newcastle General Hospital in 1978, moving on to Leicester in 1991, to become Head of Clinical Engineering. While in Leicester, he retained his interest and involvement in ultrasound, and finally retired in 2009. Kevin is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and for many years, was heavily involved in the training of NHS Clinical Scientists, spending time as Chief Examiner for the IPEM Clinical Scientist Training Scheme. Kevin also supported the British Medical Ultrasound Society through a number of roles, including Honorary Secretary and then President from 2006 - 2008. From 2012 to 2016 he was the Editor-in-Chief of the BMUS journal Ultrasound and was awarded Honorary Membership of the Society in 2016 in recognition of his contributions to the Society. Kevin taught on a number of ultrasound physics courses and published articles on various aspects of medical ultrasound, including acoustic safety measurements and techniques, Doppler system calibration devices and physiological measurement devices. Kevin now lives in South Wales and spends much of his time hill walking, cycling and enjoying the company of his grandchildren.
