in Pembina County, North Dakota in the United States. It sits on the
banks of the Pembina River. The population was 371 at the 2010 census.
Neche was founded in 1882. The name is said to come from the Ojibwe word
nidji, which means friend, neighbor, or one like myself. According to
the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square
miles (0.78 km2), all of it land. The closest community to Neche is
Gretna, Manitoba, on the other side of the United States-Canada border.
