The Three Cliffs of Gower have stood proudly since ancient times, their magic and mystery respected by the wolves of the Therafrax pack. The pack are preparing for their annual meeting with their sister pack, the Nritang, to compete in the games, showing athleticism, strength and power.

Caliopia, whose home is at Three Cliffs, is discontent with her life. At twenty-eight, she is still living at home with her demanding mother. She is expected to claim a male mate and churn out cubs, something Callie wishes to avoid. The sister pack arrives in town and the Therafrax hear news that the Nritang have five new members in their group, after suffering huge losses when an attack wiped out their own pack.
