Left a refugee after the 1959 annexation of Tibet, he taught at Sanskrit University in Varanasi before coming to America in 1968, where he has established major educational, publishing, and cultural preservation projects-including the World Peace Ceremony in India and the freedistribution of millions of books to the Tibetan diaspora.
