Malcolm 'kid' (that's kid with a lower k, always.) MacAlister's cards haven't served him well thus far, but he doesn't let that stop him from continuing to place his bets. Fleeing tragedy, he finds himself going All-In with a very odd benefactor, only to find out that his cards have always been wild.
kid treks into the Wyoming wilderness trying to find a way to heal from his losses. He's set his sights on the Pacific, and is elated when he reaches interstate 80--a hitchhiker's dream. Once there, his very first ride offers to take him all the way to the Bay! The only catch? They'll need to make a slight detour. One that his ride says won't add any distance to the trip, but it might add some extra time...or maybe it's the other way around?
The choice is kid's, and like all choices, with this one, there will be consequences. But that's okay, if there's one thing kid's been good at, it's avoiding consequences...and he's All In.
Before he knows it, kid is thrust into a war he never even knew existed. One for the very survival of his entire universe. He'll need to gather allies and make alliances if he is to survive what's ahead. Even by his closest ally, he's told from the start that this is a battle he can't win, but hey, he's the godsdamned AOC, and he isn't about to fold.
With all the confidence of the young, kid takes his chances, and makes his choices, bluffs and bets, creating chaos in a world desperately in need of it. His choices hold more power than he ever dreamed. It's a lot to put in any kid's hands.
