Its full meaning, however, is obscure. It is a Greek word, whose dictionary definition is "e;the word or form which expresses a thought; also the thought."e; Webster defines the word as "e;the rational principle in the Universe."e; In theology, the "e;Logos"e; is THE WORD-"e;that is, the actively expressed creative and revelatory thought and Will of God, at once distinguished from and identified with Him."e; As the rational principle in the Universe, the "e;Logos"e; expresses the truth of an immanent reason in the world and inseparable from it. Like a law of Nature, objective in the world, the "e;Logos"e; gives order and regularity to the movement of things and rationalizes All That Is. It is basic, fundamental, immovable, immortal. It is the controlling and developing principle of the Universe. It is the perpetual teacher within Man-deathless, imperishable. It is the Deity of all religions, the Supreme Soul or Essence of the Universe; the Trimurti or Hindu Trinity; the Buddha, the Blessed One, of Buddhism; the Lord of Wisdom, the King of Light, the Guardian of Mankind of Zoroastrianism.It is God's Voice, the Creative Word of Christianity, the Word made flesh. It is universal, undifferentiated.The beginning of the First Chapter of St. John would, therefore, read thus:"e;In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God.The wise man knows that he is bathed in wisdom by this great Soul Entity of the Universe-the Logos; and that, like the Logos, he is himself eternal-eternal now, in eternity now.
